Hi there, I’m Antonina. Welcome to Oregon Essential.
I started this site because I fell completely in love with Oregon and wanted to share that with anyone planning a visit or thinking about making the move. I’ve lived in Portland since 2018, and in that time I’ve explored nearly every corner of this state, from the misty coastline to the high desert east of the Cascades.
Oregon Essential is built on one simple idea: the best travel advice comes from someone who actually lives here. Not a weekend visitor, not a brand partnership, not an algorithm. A real person who has hiked the trails, eaten at the restaurants, and figured out which “hidden gems” are actually worth the drive.
Every guide on this site is based on firsthand experience. I write about places I’ve been, food I’ve eaten, and hikes I’ve actually completed. If something is overrated, I’ll tell you. If a restaurant closed, I’ll update the post. I’d rather give you one honest recommendation than a list of twenty places I found on Google.
What You’ll Find Here
Oregon Essential covers the places and experiences that make Oregon worth visiting (and worth staying in). That includes:
- Portland — restaurants, neighborhoods, hikes, day trips, and seasonal guides
- The Oregon Coast — town guides, campgrounds, tide pools, lighthouses, and road trip itineraries
- The Columbia Gorge and Hood River — waterfalls, wineries, breweries, and outdoor adventures
- Bend and Central Oregon — hiking, camping, lakes, and high desert exploration
- Practical stuff — where to stay, what to eat, when to visit, how to get around
