I don’t ask for much, give me an apartment with southern-facing windows and enough plants to take over the room. So far, my little 700 square-foot apartment is home to 42 happy plants, so you can bet I’ve spent my fair share of time exploring most of the plant shops in Portland. Here’s a roundup of my favorites.
Local’s Tip: I recently discovered this stunning plant book at one of the plant shops, highly recommend!

#5. Hammer + Vine
Intimate, quaint and quirky, Hammer & Vine is the quintessential Portland plant shop. It’s tucked into an building off West Burnside and I would have missed it altogether if it weren’t for the little sign on the sidewalk.
Inside, the tiny shop is filled to the brim with fascinating and unique plant species I haven’t seen elsewhere.
Additionally, their selection of charming clay pots is impressive and the knowledgeable staff are also happy to answer any questions you may have. They go above and beyond to make sure you feel comfortable keeping your plants alive.
Local’s Tip: You can purchase plants online through their website, but prices are higher due to shipping cost.
Address: 2190 W Burnside St. Suite B, Portland, OR 97210

#4. Gurton’s Plant Shop
Ask any local about their favorite plant shop in Portland and Gurton’s is guaranteed to grace the list. This beautiful plant shop has been family-owned for seven generations and doesn’t show signs of slowing anytime soon.
As soon as you walk in, you’ll be swallowed up by plants. The variety spans the gamut! Whether you’re in the market for classics like philodendrons and cactus or more exotic and unique species, you’ll find it all.
With plenty of pots, soil and gardening supplies (the funky sheers deserve mention), this is an easy one-stop-shop for anyone looking for some cool plants to bring home.
Address: 6360 SW Capitol Hwy, Portland, OR 97239
Local’s Tip: Gurton’s Plant Shop is well known for their impressive cactus and succulent selection.
#3. Cistus Nursery
Visiting Cistus Nursery feels like stepping foot unto a tropical island, and I don’t need to tell you how essential that is during the winter months! Unlike the other Portland plant shops mentioned on this list, Cistus is a working nursery. You’ll find everything from tiny house plants to fruit trees fit for an orchard.
Not only is the plant selection well curated and large (there’s some interesting hard-to-find varieties), but the staff is knowledgeable and warm.
Address: 22711 NW Gillihan Rd, Portland, OR 97231

#2. Pistils Nursery
Founded in 2001, Pistils Nursery is quite possibly the most instagramable plant shop in Portland.
There’s two locations to choose from (N Mississippi and Slabtown), both locations are equally charming. Every nook and cranny is perfectly curated to show interesting plant species and beautiful pots.
There’s a reason Portlanders have been relying on this plant shop to calm their itchy green fingers for more than twenty years, it’s a great experience!
Locations: 3811 N Mississippi Ave, Portland, OR 97227 & 2139 NW Raleigh St #108, Portland, OR 97210

#1. Solabee
Part-floral studio, part-plant shop, thankfully Solabee Flowers & Botanicals excels in both fields. There’s two beautiful locations (NW Portland and N Killingsworth) and both are chock-full of thriving plants and beautiful floral arrangements.
Locations: 801 N Killingsworth St, Portland, OR 97217 & 1759 NW 24th Ave, Portland, OR 97210
