Everybody knows about the world-famous lavender fields in France, but few know about the breathtaking lavender farms in Oregon. Which is a pity, considering there’s a ton of beautiful lavender farms near Portland worth the detour.
But time is precious and not all lavender fields are created equal, so allow me to share my list of the best lavender farms in Oregon based on firsthand experience. I’m not one for small talk, let’s get to the good stuff.
When to Visit Oregon Lavender Farms
Peak bloom for lavender varies from year to year (based on weather), but for the most part the lavender fields in Oregon bloom between mid-July and August. If helpful, we visited the farms listed below between July 10 and August 3. As you can see, the fields were ablaze with delightful hues of magenta and violet.

Varieties of lavender grown in Oregon
There are four main varieties of lavender grown in Oregon.
- English Lavender (sometimes considered “true” lavender)
- Lavandin (most common)
- Spanish Lavender
- Rivera Lavender

Visiting U-Pick Lavender Farms in Oregon
Most lavender farms in Oregon offer u-cut options where you can borrow shears from a stand and cut your own bouquets to take home (typically $15 per bunch). Likewise, a ton of lavender farms sell lavender-scented soaps, candles, lip balms, essential oils and lotions. What’s more, you’ll even find delicious edible treats too, like lavender lemonade, lavender ice cream and lavender honey (my favorite)!
Tips for Responsibly Visiting Lavender Farms
- Wear sunscreen and a sun hat. There’s seldom any shade to be had at most lavender farms since the fields need direct sun exposure. I swear by this sunscreen, I discovered it in France and now buy it in bulk. You’ll never catch me without it!
- Bees flock to lavender fields like a moth to a flame so be mindful if you are fearful of bees. Based on our experience, they’re harmless but definitely present.
- Don’t forget your water bottle. It’s summer and temperatures tend to be on the hotter side, you’ll want to stay hydrated while exploring these beautiful Oregon lavender farms!
- Wear proper shoes. Closed-toe, lace up shoes work best in fields with weeds and uneven surfaces.

Established in 2003 by a cosmetologist and esthetician, Hood River Lavender Farm tops my list of the best lavender farms in Oregon.
Think never-ending rows of lavender in full bloom with Mount Adams and Mt. Hood looming in the distance. Stave off the heat with a lavender lemonade or, better yet, lavender ice cream from the farm store.
What’s more, Hood River Lavender Farm is located right next to one of my favorite wineries in Hood River, Stave & Stone. Relax with a glass of wine, surrounded by lavender, and feel the afternoon hours melt away.
Then, when you’ve had your fill of blissful relaxation (can you ever?), hop over to the U-pick stand for sheers and grab yourself a bouquet to take home.
Good to Know: Every July, Hood River Lavender Farm hosts the Lavender Daze Festival. This event brings thousands to celebrate the peak lavender bloom of the season. Live music, food, art, and activities vendors also join in on the fun. It’s a great time!

The best part about this spectacular Oregon lavender farm? It sits on a decades-old farm equipped with a vineyard! I highly suggest swinging by the Durant Tasting room for a tasting flight. The Willamette Valley is known for knock-out Pinot Noir, what better way to spend a summer afternoon?
Durant at Red Ridge Farms hosts an annual Lavender Festival weekend in July. I suggest calling your girlfriends and making an entire weekend out of it! You can even stay on the property in a charming cottage or suite.
P.S. Pick up a bottle of lavender-infused olive oil from Red Ridge Farms, it’s made in-house and adds a fun twist to a culinary classic.

Lavender Valley (Permanently Closed)
Spanning 25 breathtaking acres and growing 11 splendid varieties of lavender, Hood River’s Lavender Valley was one of the best lavender farms in Oregon. The iconic view of Mt. Hood looming over a picture-perfect log cabin while a sea of vibrant lavender takes center stage, it’s a beautiful sight.
The farm closed abruptly a few years ago. Last I heard, it was sold off. Hopefully the new owners choose to re-open it to the public because it was one of my favorite lavender fields near Portland.
