When Will the Cherry Blossoms Bloom in Portland?
My predictions for peak bloom for 2024 are based on conditions from last year. Read on for weekly updates, photos and videos! Don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions, always happy to help!
March 1, 2023: All of the trees are showing buds and one tree had about three cherry blossom blooms. With the sunnier weather coming to Portland more blooms will start popping open this week.
Based on what I’m seeing out there now, I’m predicting we won’t see peak bloom happen for the Portland cherry blossoms for another 14 days.
Photos from March 7, 2023
A rainy day in the City of Roses but the cherry blossoms are starting to show. It’s still too early to see them in full glory, but I’m guessing next week will be great. About 15% of the buds are turning into blossoms and the trees are definitely getting more colorful. Check back next week for more photos.
Photos taken March 12, 2023
We strolled down to the waterfront for sunset and the cherry blossoms appear to be approaching peak bloom, we’re getting so close!
I think this weekend will be great for seeing cherry blossoms at the waterfront. I’m guessing they might even be past peak by next weekend, so try get out there very soon.
Photos taken March 16, 2023
As of March 16, 2023 – we’re at PEAK bloom! It was so beautiful this morning I couldn’t stop taking photos, but nothing beats experiencing the cherry blossoms for yourself. Hope you can make it out this weekend!

2024 Portland Cherry Blossom Updates
UPDATE FEBRUARY 28TH, 2024: Some cherry trees are starting to show blooms in sunny areas. Nothing really happening at the waterfront yet. Prediction holding strong for peak bloom the week of the 15th.
UPDATE MARCH 4TH, 2024: More cherry trees are coming into bloom with the sunny days we’ve been having over the last week. This raises my level of confidence on my prediction of peak bloom for the week of the 15th!
UPDATE MARCH 9TH, 2024: Folks, the recent cold snap has thrown us for a loop! As a recent commenter pointed out, the buds aren’t showing the same progress this time of year as they did in 2020. I’m revising my forecast accordingly and pushing back one week.
UPDATE MARCH 17TH, 2024: Exciting news – the cherry blossom trees are clearly getting ready to bloom! I spotted a few blooms this morning, which means the rest will follow soon. Even more exciting, there’s sunshine in the forecast toward the end of next week, which should force the buds open.
UPDATE MARCH 19TH, 2024: The blossoms at the waterfront are coming out! Nowhere near peak bloom yet but next week is looking to be the week. I’ll keep you posted in the next few days.
UPDATE MARCH 24TH, 2024: I visited the cherry blossoms at Tom McCall Waterfront Park and took some photos & videos (below). The blooms are starting to pop! My best prediction is next week for peak bloom.
UPDATE MARCH 26TH, 2024: The blooms are looking great. I recommend visiting if you’re in the area for a beautiful display. Peak blooms could be as early as March 29th if the weather cooperates!!
UPDATE MARCH 29TH, 2024
The cherry blossoms are basically peak! If you’re around I highly recommend going down to the waterfront to soak it all in. As long as the strong wind (like the one we experienced yesterday) doesn’t threaten the buds, we should be in for a peak blooms for all the whole week.
My best guess is peak will be tomorrow or the next day, tapering off slowly from there. I will try to get down there soon to grab some more up to date photos – stay tuned!
UPDATE MARCH 31st, 2024
The cherry blossoms are at peak! At long last we’ve arrived!! I’ve shared some photos below for you to see – it’s absolutely gorgeous out there.
This year’s peak is a full two weeks later than last year – go figure. I’m hoping the weather will cooperate and the blooms will mostly remain on the trees for the rest of the week – stay tuned.
UPDATE APRIL 10th, 2024
The cherry blossoms are officially past peak – but the area is still beautiful. This year has been a wild one for the cherry blossoms in Portland with a later bloom. However, seems like we got lucky with the extended bloom season this year (they don’t normally last so long).
If you’re debating whether to see them, I suggest swinging by. At this point, the second round of cherry blossoms is starting to reach peak bloom, read the cherry blossom guide for some helpful info.
If you can’t make it down to the cherry blossoms this year, feel free to check out the video below.

You’re amazing!! Do you have any insight on the blooms this year?? I’m hoping my mom will be in town to see them 🤞🤞
That’s so sweet, I hope your mom makes it! Keep an eye on the tracker in the post, it shows how the blooms played out in past years, and a warm sunny stretch is usually when they pop.
Hi – is there going to be cherry blossoms tracker for 2023? Please haha
They are blooming right now! Pretty close to peak 🙂
Hi,
Will you also be tracking the blossoms this year?
Looking forward to 2021 images. Do you post them every year?
Thank you! Yes, I post them every year. They are at the bottom of the post along with video updated yesterday 🙂
Cheers,
Antonina
Hi again!!! I’m experiencing some INTENSE winds and hail down in Oregon City — not sure if Portland is experiencing the same thing but if so, do you think the blooms will have been blown away? 🙁
Hi Char,
I am guessing that some “damage” was done to the blossoms full potential yesterday as a result of the wind storm. I will get down there hopefully later today or tomorrow to report on the action – will keep you posted!
Best,
Antonina
Swung by yesterday and def blooming and many peaked. Beautiful day yesterday and it was a great time and scene there. Next few days or so should all be out but if you are planning to go on weekend the weather aint looking good.
Hi
Do they stay in bloom until atleast May 1st? Hoping to catch it then
Sorry Lynda,
I don’t think they will still be blooming then 🙁
Best,
Antonina
On the update 3/24 you said end of next week but 26th-29th?, do you mean 4/2-4/4..?
Hi Liz,
Thanks for pointing that out – it has been corrected and I just added my latest update for today. Looking like peak could be as early as March 29 or as late as April 2 depending on the weather!
Best,
Antonina
Loved the latest video creation.. looking to visit Portland in 1 week of April (looks like i am late for cherry blossom)..
Hi Jitendra!
Thanks a bunch! I think you may be there for peak after all! My updated prediction has peak coming in between March 29 & April 2!
Cheers,
Antonina
Can you share where’s the closest public parking to where you photographed the trees are?
Hi Jess,
There is some street parking off Naito for $2/hr near Davis St but spots are very limited. There’s also parking at the Naito & Davis SmartPark Garage that’s inexpensive as well ($5 all day on Saturday/Sunday).
Cheers,
Antonina
Thank you for your lovely pictures, I will be there on 4/10, will the flowers still be there? Thank you.
Hi Susie,
Thanks for the kind words! It really depends on the winds & rain. The blossoms themselves are capable of lasting a good 7 days or more but it’s all based on the weather once they’re on the trees. I’ll keep updating here to keep you posted. Fingers crossed they stick around!
Best,
Antonina
Will be in Portland 4/2. Will the cherry blossoms still be around then?
Yep! Barring some sort of a wind storm you should be able to see a pretty spectacular display 🙂
Cheers!
Antonina
This is amazingly helpful!! I thought I completely missed it. Do you still predict that 26-29th will be the peak blooms? Also I know yesterday was a little windy and rainy — has this affected the blooms? (Hopefully not!)
Hi Char,
Thank you! My prediction for the 26-29th is still holding strong. Yesterdays winds and rain I do not believe will affect it 🙂
Cheers!
Antonina
Where is the closest public place to park to get to where the trees you take pics of?
There is some street parking off Naito for $2/hr near Davis St but spots are very limited. There’s also parking at the Naito & Davis SmartPark Garage that’s inexpensive as well ($5 all day on Saturday/Sunday).

I just want to say thank you for your work. We will be in Oregon on April 17. It might be a bit late for the cherry blossom.
I honestly think you will be late for cherry blossoms
Hi!
I love your page so much and check the tracker regularly. It’s super useful! However, I was wondering since after tomorrow it seems that there is a long stretch of rain during your predicted week. Does this mean at the time the flowers will be in full bloom, it will be rainy or with the rain delay the bloom further?
Hi there!
Thanks so much. It’s unlikely that the rain would delay the bloom but depending on how heavy it is could be a real damper on it. Light rain won’t have much of an impact but heavy rain can diminish the beauty of a full bloom by stripping petals prematurely. The wind is the real enemy to watch out for in this case and so far I’m not seeing heavy winds in the forecast. I’ll be updating the tracker shortly with my latest forecast!
Cheers!
Antonina
Will be in Portland on 3/16…any luck with cherry blossom then? Was recently in Seattle and no luck there ☹️
Hi Mari,
Apologies for the delay. This year the blossoms seem to be coming in a bit late. There’s still lots to see in Portland but the cherry blossoms are not yet peaking.
Best,
Antonina
I’ve been keeping an eye on your predictions. I will be in town next week, March 19-22. Do you think I will see cherry blossoms in bloom?
Hi Amy,
I believe you’ll be in luck. Forecast looks like a bit of rain and cold but at least some of the blooms will be out if not peak. If we can get a day or two of sunshine in we will be looking good! Let me know how it goes for you!
Antonina
Any new news? The weather forecast for the week of the 22nd is fairly cold and rainy. Do you still anticipate that being peak week? Is the budding progressing?
Hi Christine,
There’s a few days of sun in the forecast for this week which should push our little buds along. Peak bloom always happens suddenly. Still feeling good about the week of the 21st but there are certainly a lot of variables this year! Last year the Cherry Blossoms peak were much easier to predict. The buds are making steady progress albeit a bit delayed compared to the norm. I’ll be sure to continue updating here as we get closer!
Best,
Antonina
Thank you very much for your insightful and informative blog! Now this is a public service!
Johannes — Thank YOU for the kind words! Glad you find the blog helpful! I love writing it. 🙂
In 2020 on March 1 the blooms appeared to be further along than they are today, March 9 2021. Peak was March 16…2 weeks after the early buds. It appears that maybe our late freeze slowed things down by two weeks which would theoretically mean a late March peak in 2021? What do you think?
Hi Galin, I agree. Will be updating the forecast to reflect the recent cold snap and will be revising by 1 week. Thanks for the comment!
Still thinking March 15th for peak blossoms?
Hi Kate! Still thinking the week of the 15th. Probably toward the middle of the week. Seeing blooms in sunny spots but not too much at the waterfront yet.
Will be coming on april 16 you think there is cherry blossom left?
Hi Armie,
I think the blooms will be gone by then 🙁
Hi! love these photos! Do you have a prediction this year for the trees? Trying to plan a trip and definitely don’t want to miss them!
Hi Cyn! Yes, I just updated the tracker with my prediction. Best bet for this year based on current weather trends and what we saw last year is the week of March 15th! They are absolutely stunning, especially down by the waterfront. Enjoy!
thank you so much! Do you remember how long they stay around for last year after it was fully bloomed ?
I can’t remember exactly but I think it was around 7 days!
This cherry blossom tracker is so helpful!!! Thank you, Antonina!
I’m so glad you found it helpful!! Thanks for letting me know. 🙂
Do you sell your photos?
Hi Valerie,
Are you interested in using the photos? Happy to share them.
I live out of state and have been wanting to go back to Portland for the cherry blossoms. None of the webcams online show the cherry blossoms. Thank you for these updates and the gorgeous photos! Stay safe and away from the coronavirus!
Hi Maggie,
Thank you SO much for the kind words! I’m so glad you found this post helpful and I hope you (and your loved ones) are staying healthy and safe as well!
Here’s to a better springtime visit in 2021!
