We decided to visit the lavender farms in Hood River last weekend and made a full day of it. Like most folks, I know about the world famous lavender fields in Provence, but had no idea Oregon had a few stunning spots in her back pocket too.
Hood River seems to have the lion’s share of great lavender farms. So, if you can’t go to Provence, I suggest visiting Hood River for endless fields of lavender.
There’s several lavender farms to choose from in Hood River, but we decided to visit Lavender Valley because of the stunning view of Mt. Hood. While doing the research, I was surprised to learn that admission was free.
You’ll also get the chance to cut your own lavender bouquets for $12 (which we did, the house smells great!). I regret not visiting these lavender fields earlier, it was such a peaceful way to spend the day. I think this will become an annual tradition for us.

Oh, also worth mention, lavender fields are known for attracting bees (tons and tons of bees). But they weren’t aggressive or anything. In fact, when one of the staff members was showing us how to cut lavender, he mentioned the bees only sting only if you swat at them.
If you leave them be, they leave you be. Thankfully no stings for us! We had a heck of a time at Lavender Valley and can’t wait to return. Hope you enjoy the photos!

Until next time,
Antonina

Hi, may I ask when you visited Lavender Valley last year? I am planning a trip to Portland but unsure if I should go in mid-July or in mid-June to see the peak bloom 🙂
Absolutley! We visited august 3rd and the valley was in full bloom. Hope this helps 🙂
Good morning! I am going to Lavender Valley on July 29 and so excited! What time of day were your pictures taken?
Thank you!
Update for the 2022 year:
Lavender Valley is permanently closed. We just visited today and they are selling the property. Hood River Lavender Farm is about 15 minutes away though and is lovely. They have a winery and gift shop. There’s mountain views on both sides of the property.
Hi Raquel,
Thank you so much for letting me know. I have updated the post.
I stopped by the farm last week. The place was closed permanently. Just in case anyone is planning for a visit.
Thank you for the update — the post has been updated! 🙂
Love this place! Did you go this year 2022 or last year? Google says it permanently closed. Not sure if it is about website or the place?
Hi Oksana,
I went in 2021. A few readers reached out to let me know the farm had closed. I tried to reach out to Lavender Valley but got no response. As such, I’ve updated the post to reflect it is closed.
